Welcome to the Acupuncture Practice of Joanne Weinman, 4Acupuncture, which serves those in Northern Virginia including Arlington, Falls Church, McLean, and Tysons Corner.

Many people come to my practice seeking to address a physical injury, pain, or chronic illness. Others are looking for assistance in coping with health concerns on a different level, such as stress, depression, or anxiety. Still others want a greater sense of meaning and connection to those around them. Whatever brings you here, my goal is that acupuncture will give you a renewed sense of harmony and balance in your life. My aim is to work in partnership with you as you design and experience new ways to health and new possibilities for your journey in life.

I bring to my clients more than 20 years career experience in health care in the U.S. and around the world grounded in 29 years practicing meditation. This is a second career for me. Having enjoyed the many benefits of acupuncture myself, I resolved to share with others my growth in wellness and well being by becoming an acupuncturist. I welcome people of diverse backgrounds who want to achieve and maintain a healthful and more balanced lifestyle.

By choosing acupuncture you are taking a great step towards achieving a more balanced and healthy lifestyle. Acupuncture assists the body's natural tendency to heal itself. It is a healing system that nourishes and promotes the life-giving energy of the body. Frequent benefits of treatment are increased energy, vitality, and enjoyment of life.
Acupuncture is a safe, effective, and drug-free therapy that addresses a wide variety of common ailments and problems. This system of medicine takes into account the marvelous complexity of each person and treats the body, mind, and spirit as a unified, holistic being. Acupuncture works preventively and curatively by supporting the body’s own natural healing abilities.
Because of its relatively low cost, noninvasive nature, and efficacy, acupuncture is a popular form of complementary care. In this gentle form of medicine, each treatment is designed uniquely to address issues experienced specifically by individuals. Symptoms are viewed in relationship to the total person in order to explore and treat the underlying cause of an issue, imbalance, or illness.

Interesting Facts about Acupuncture:
Did You Know?

Acupuncture has been practiced in the United States for only about 30 years, as a result of the United States opening diplomatic relations with China in 1972. By contrast, acupuncture has been practiced in England for over 400 years and in France for over 900 years. Most people learn about acupuncture either through someone who has personally benefited from treatment or through media attention focused on a specific aspect, such as the NIH study regarding the benefits of acupuncture for knee pain or the aspect of acupuncture’s synergistic combination with in vitro fertilization.

A recent survey conducted by Claire Cassidy, Ph.D., of people who receive regular acupuncture found that clients see their physicians less frequently and use fewer medications. And, over two-thirds of those in the survey reported they were able to avoid surgery that had been previously recommended for their ailments.

In other reports, clients committed to lifestyles focused on wellness who receive ongoing acupuncture treatment for maintenance and health promotion often experience some or all of the following:
• They are sick less often and recover more quickly from illness they do contract
• Their vitality and stamina improve
• They are able to take care of their health more effectively
• They experience more harmonious relationships with others
• They reduce health care costs over the long term
