"Having enjoyed the many benefits of acupuncture myself, I resolved to share with others my growth in wellness and well-being by becoming an acupuncturist"
          - Joanne Weinman,
          Licensed Acupuncturist

I have a Masters in Acupuncture (Over 2700 hours of study) from the nationally recognized TAI SOPHIA Institute in Laurel, Maryland.  It was the first school of acupuncture in the United States.  I am licensed by the Virginia Department of Medical Professions and hold the Diplomate in Acupuncture credential from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine that is a requirement for a license to practice in the Commonwealthh of Virginia. And, I am a member of the Acupuncture Society of Virginia. Additionally, I have taken advanced studies in herbal medicine, and I am certified in Acupuncture Detoxification Protocols.   Also, I am required to take courses that provide a minimum of 60 continuing education every four years to maintain my Virginia License.

I am a general practitioner of acupuncture and have specialized concentrations in treating clients with the following issues:
  • pain issues throughout the body including back, knee, sciatica, neck and shoulder, fibromyalgia, myofacial pain syndrome,  as well as joint and muscle pain associate with Lyme Disease
  • women's life-cycle health issues including menstrual pain and irregularities as well as menopausal symptoms
  • fertility issues for women and men
  • sleep issues including chronic fatigue syndrome
  • smoking cessation using the Tobacufree (tm) program
  • allergy symptom management and relief
In addition to providing acupuncture treatments for the specific issues listed above, I provide general wellness, relief for anxiety, panic attacks, and depression, as well as cosmetic acupuncture delivered via Energy Light Rejuvenation (ELR).

This is a second career for me.  Having enjoyed the many benefits of acupuncture myself, I resolved to share with others my growth in wellness and well being by become an acupuncturist.  People of diverse backgrounds who want to achieve and maintain a healthful and more balanced lifestyle are welcome to my practice.

Prior to becoming an acupuncturist, I enjoyed more than 20 years career experience in the field of health in the U.S. and around the world grounded in 39 years practicing meditation.  Now I use my skills to partner with clients who seek to be pain free, healthy, and happy.

Although I was born and raised in upstate New York (Rochester), I subsequently moved to North Central Florida and lived there for 14 years.  During my time there, I completed my first Masters
Degree.  I moved to Northern Virginia in 1988 after returning to the U.S. from living and working in Central Africa (The Democratic Republic of the Congo) where I worked in maternal & child health, women's health, and HIV/AIDS prevention and education for various organizations including the U.S. Agency for International Health and the Centers for Disease Control.

If you want to learn more about acupuncture, please contact me.  Through my experience as both a client and a practitioner, I have experienced the tremendous results of acupuncture treatment.
